Nebraska secured a priority transfer target Thursday in a playmaking receiver with multiple college seasons ahead of him.
Former Cal wideout Nyziah Hunter committed to the Huskers following a visit to campus.
The redshirt freshman had reportedly set a trip to Kansas State as well but liked what he saw in Lincoln enough to immediately join the mix near the top of NU’s pass-catching rotation for 2025.
The 6-foot-2, 192-pounder from Salinas, California, broke out this fall with 40 catches for 578 yards and five touchdowns.
The one-time four-star recruit flashed a blend of speed and size on the edge against ACC defenses. One of his better performances was in early September with a four-reception, 44-yard day against Auburn with two scores.
Oklahoma and Texas Tech were among the other top contenders for Hunter, considered an especially valuable portal commodity with three years of remaining eligibility.

Nebraska’s other two main transfer receiver targets — Eric Rivers from FIU and Dane Key from Kentucky — each have one year left to play. Rivers committed to Georgia Tech on Wednesday night while Key is trending toward choosing Georgia according to recruiting reports.
Hunter was Cal’s most targeted player this season and joins a Nebraska team replacing its Nos. 2 and 3 most-targeted members in outgoing seniors Jahmal Banks (67 targets) and Isaiah Neyor (63). Freshman Jacory Barney (69) returns as the leader and the only other non-running back still with the team with more than 20 is tight end Thomas Fidone.
