NORTH PLATTE — A 23-year-old Evansville, Indiana, man is in custody and a 36-year-old North Platte man has life-threatening injuries after a shooting Saturday.
Daveantae Booker was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, North Platte Police Chief Steve Reeves said in a news release.
According to the release, officers responded to a home in the 1000 block of North Walnut about 10:15 a.m. Saturday for the report of a shooting.
The 36-year-old victim was found in the 300 block of East 10th Street, slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle which had crashed into a parked vehicle, Reeves said. According to Reeves, the man was attempting to drive to Great Plains Health to seek treatment.
The victim has life-threatening injuries and was transported to another medical facility after initially being taken to Great Plains by ambulance.

The suspect was arrested in a parking lot in the 700 block of North Jeffers Street. The suspect's girlfriend was also detained, Reeves said, and a child was taken into protective custody.
The suspect’s girlfriend is related to one of the residents at the home where the shooting occurred, Reeves said. She arrived in town within the last couple weeks with Booker. An argument is believed to have led to the shooting.
"This information is being released at an early stage in the investigation," Reeves said in the release. "Search warrants are being sought for the residence at 1016 N. Walnut St. and the suspect’s vehicle. Police will be on scene throughout (Saturday) as searches are conducted and interviews continue."

A line of people waiting to vote has been normal at the Lancaster County Election Commission Office at 601 N. 46th St., as it was Friday afternoon.
