Nebraska football has a new playcaller: Dana Holgorsen.Â
NU coach Matt Rhule announced the change in his Monday press conference. Holgorsen replaces Marcus Satterfield, who had been the Husker playcaller for the 21 games of the Rhule era.Â
"It's probably unique," Rhule said. "But it's what's needed. It's the right thing."Â
Rhule said he invited Holgorsen, the former head coach of West Virginia and Houston, to NU's campus last week to assess the coaching staff and players. Holgorsen liked what he saw, and Rhule has been impressed by Holgorsen's offense when he competed against him.Â
Satterfield will remain on the staff. Rhule said Satterfield "humbled himself" was willing to continue coaching tight ends. Asked what went wrong with NU's playcalling for the first nine games, Rhule said the Huskers "tried to do too many things" on offense, specifically in trying to get too many different players the ball.Â

Holgorsen will also help Nebraska be more "aggressive," than Rhule would prefer — that's one reason why Rhule made the move.Â
Holgorsen will not overhaul NU's offense with three weeks left, but he can tweak it to determine how to best maximize the talent NU has.Â
"You can't come in and install the Air Raid," Rhule said. "...I think Coach Holgorsen can adjust his offense to our players."Â
