A 24-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning in one of three separate shootings Lincoln police are investigating.
Lincoln police found two men with gunshot wounds after being called to the area of 11th and P streets at about 1:30 a.m. on the report of a fight.
The 24-year-old man was taken to a Lincoln hospital, where he died of his wounds at about 5:30 a.m., police said in a news release. Police said they are not releasing his name pending notification of his family.
The other victim has non-life-threatening injuries.Â
Assuming police rule the 24-year-old man's death a homicide, it would be the seventh one in Lincoln so far this year. Police are still looking for a suspect, Lt. Brian Agnew said.
It is unclear what led up to the shooting, but there was a disturbance outside of a bar in the area before the incident, Agnew said.
It was a busy night for downtown Lincoln bars after the Nebraska football team's win over Colorado at Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Bars are required to close at 2 a.m.
Police were called to the area of 33rd and Holdrege streets on reports of a shooting at about 11 p.m.
When they got there, they found a 20-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
An employee at the Casey's convenience store at the southwest corner of 33rd and Holdrege streets told a Journal Star reporter he saw a person wearing a hoodie and ski mask get out of a car at the intersection and begin firing a gun toward the Kwik Shop convenience store across the street.
Video viewed by the Journal Star also showed a person firing from the Casey's parking lot toward a car at the Kwik Shop just before 10:55 p.m.
The Casey's employee said he saw the shooter flee on foot west through an alley behind the Casey's.Â
Just after 11:30 p.m., UNL sent an alert warning of a dangerous person in the area armed with a rifle. UNL later posted that the person was no longer in the area.
Police cordoned off the Casey's parking lot with crime-scene tape and used numerous cones to mark at least 17 shell casings.
The Lincoln Police Department has surveillance video of the shooting but declined to release the footage because they have identified a suspect, Agnew said. No arrest had been made as of Sunday morning.
Earlier on Saturday, officers responded to another shooting report in the area of 20th Street and Cornhusker Highway just after 7:45 p.m. The caller told officers that 51-year-old David Blackburn of Lincoln shot multiple rounds at the building after the two had gotten into a verbal altercation.
Officers found a bullet hole in a vehicle as well as six bullet holes in an exterior wall of the building.
Officers located Blackburn at a nearby hotel and found him in possession of the gun that was allegedly used in the shooting. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree assault, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, discharge of a weapon near a vehicle or building and terroristic threats and taken to the Lancaster County jail.
Police do not believe any of the shootings are related, and investigations are ongoing in the 11th and P and 33rd and Holdrege shootings. LPD said it is seeking information from the public, including video recordings, on those two incidents.
