Funds from the Fielding Dreams campaign would be used to complete a four-field softball complex at Standing Bear to be shared by the city's high schools. One of the fields would have artificial turf.
Allo Fiber on Tuesday announced a $750,000 donation to the Fielding Dreams Campaign to upgrade athletic fields and facilities for Lincoln students.
The pledge from Allo will go to help build a locker room at UBT Stadium at Lincoln Northwest High School and concessions at the new softball fields at Lincoln Standing Bear High School.
“Our team is proud to support education throughout the state of Nebraska to minimize the digital divide,†Brad Moline, Allo president and CEO, said in a news release. “From The Bay High to Fielding Dreams, Allo’s support of Lincoln’s schools is much like investing in fiber — a 30- to 50-year investment in success.â€
Allo also will provide free wireless internet at the athletic complexes at Northwest and Standing Bear, as well as at Den Hartog and Seacrest fields. Allo Regional Manager Dave Miller said in a news release that public Wi-Fi is a necessity and expectation at venues to allow parents and students to get connected.
A $290 million LPS bond issue approved in 2020 included $15.4 million for athletic complexes at the two new high schools, less than half of the projected $32.4 million price tag.

The Fielding Dreams Campaign kicked off in August 2022 to raise the additional $17 million needed to complete facilities that will be shared by city schools. The plans call for baseball fields to be added at Northwest, with softball and soccer fields and a tennis complex to be built at Standing Bear.
The $750,000 from Allo joins a $1.5 million pledge from Union Bank & Trust to help pay for the football/track stadium at Northwest and a $1 million pledge from U-Stop to help pay for the tennis complex at Standing Bear.
“The only way to create world-class amenities for Lincoln and the region is to create public/private partnerships like this one to keep our city growing and vibrant,†said Wendy Van, president of the Foundation for LPS, in a news release.
