On Sept 8., at about 1:30 a.m. 24-year-old Saiveon Hopkins of Lincoln was shot in the chest outside a bar near 11th and P streets after a report of a fight, LPD Assistant Chief Jason Stille said at a press conference after the shooting.Â
Officers arrived in the area and discovered Hopkins and another Lincoln man with gunshot wounds and were both taken to a local hospital. Hopkins died from his injuries.Â
Police did not know if Hopkins was involved in a fight that escalated into the shooting.Â
Allick saw three men fighting outside the Highball Bar on 11th Street. He waved down officers patrolling the area, who broke up the fight.Â
Shortly after, Allick and a friend were walking away and heard two gunshots. People quickly spilled out of the bar and formed a crowd around a man who had been shot.Â
Hopkins' death is the seventh homicide in Lincoln this year.Â
Hopkins was an adult film star who worked under the name Jay Hefner.Â
