Good morning, Lincoln. Here's what you should know today.
LPS foundation wraps up campaign After two years of fundraising, the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools officially ended its $33 million Fielding Dreams campaign to fund the completion of new athletic complexes at Lincoln’s two newest high schools at the end of October — stopping $10 million short of the original goal.
But despite the fundraising campaign coming to an end, Interim President John Neal said the work to complete these projects doesn’t end here.
The campaign was an “incredible start,” Neal said. Now, the foundation will continue its efforts to seek out donors to fund the remaining projects, but the work will no longer be under the umbrella of the Fielding Dreams campaign.
Veterans honored
The Residence at Gramercy, an assisted-living facility, found multiple ways to honor its 14 residents who are military veterans ahead of Veterans Day, which is Monday.
There was a VFW Veterans Day program on Wednesday. Other events included a visit from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Rifle Team, transportation to the annual Lincoln Veterans Parade on Sunday, and a breakfast on Monday to honor those who served along with their families.
Three of those veterans also spoke to the Journal Star about their service.
Presidential Scholars program expanded The University of Nebraska will expand the number of full scholarships it provides to top students in the state in the coming year.
The Presidential Scholars program, which grants students who score a perfect 36 on the A-C-T college-entrance exam free tuition and room and board, as well as a $5,000 stipend, will open to other high-performing scholars next year.
Beginning in 2025-26, Nebraska students who score a 36 on the ACT or the SAT equivalent will automatically qualify for the Presidential Scholars program, while students with scores ranging from 32 to 35 will also be considered.
