Check out the Journal Star's final high school volleyball rankings of the season, which comes after six teams were crowned on Saturday.
Class A 1. Papillion-La Vista South (34-5) | 1Â
2. Elkhorn South (26-10) | 4
3. Millard West (24-9) | 3
4. Grand Island (27-10) | 8
5. Omaha Westside (29-9) | 2
6. Lincoln Southwest (23-9) | 5
8. Lincoln North Star (20-13) | 9
9. Millard North (17-15) | 7
10. Omaha Marian (25-13) | 10
Comments: Â Papillion-La Vista South returned to its throne, as the preseason No. 1 in these rankings finishes there. Elkhorn South took down No. 3-seeded Fremont in the first round and then downed Grand Island, which upset Omaha Westside. Perhaps the most entertaining match in the Class A tournament was Millard West's five-set win vs. Lincoln Southwest in the first round.
Class B 2. Omaha Skutt (32-10) | 1
3. Elkhorn North (28-11) | 3
7. Bennington (21-14) | NR
8. Lincoln Pius X (16-25) | 10
9. Gretna East (27-10) | 5
Comments:  Norris finally did it. The Titans dethroned Omaha Skutt in a dramatic five-setter that will be remembered for a long time. Skutt also was pushed to five sets in the first round, eventually getting past Gretna. Waverly looked good and with their youth, expect a dominant team next season. Â
Class C-1 4. Kearney Catholic (25-8) | 5
6. Battle Creek (24-10) | 6
8. Gothenburg (23-11) | NR
9. Clarkson-Leigh (29-4) | 2
°ä´Ç³¾³¾±ð²Ô³Ù²õ:Ìý Minden repeated as the Class C-1 state champs. One of the better stories of the tournament was Wahoo, which came in as the No. 6 seed and sent No. 2 Pierce and No. 3 Scotus CC home. Gothenburg stunned Clarkson-Leigh in the district finals to make it back to the tournament.Â
Class C-2 1. Lincoln Lutheran (35-3) | 1
2. Thayer Central (33-3) | 7
3. Johnson-Brock (29-7) | 10Â
4. Norfolk Catholic (29-6) | 3
5. Oakland-Craig (30-6) | 2
8. Hastings SC (27-8) | NR
9. Humphrey-Lindsay (28-6) | 4
(Editor's note: Since the original publication of these rankings, Johnson-Brock has moved from No. 4 to No. 3, and Norfolk Catholic from No. 3 to No. 4).Â
Comments: Â Lincoln Lutheran controlled its fate after it conquered its quest for a four-peat. The Warriors dominated the field as they battled Thayer Central in the final match of the season. Johnson-Brock surprised Oakland-Craig in a five-set match on Thursday's opening round match. Yutan and Norfolk Catholic duked it out in a five-set opening round match.Â
Class D-1 5. Cambridge (22-11) | 6
6. Howells-Dodge (18-14) | NR
7. Diller-Odell (19-12) | 8
8. Cedar Catholic (14-19) | NR
9. Ansley/Litchfield (21-11) | 4
Comments: Â Reagan Meyers went off in the tournament, collecting 89 kills in three matches as she propelled Superior to its second state championship. Superior defeated No. 2 BDS in the semis. Exeter-Milligan/Friend upset No. 4 Cambridge and No. 1 Southwest to punch their ticket to the championship.Â
Class D-2 3. Central Valley (29-7) | 4
10. Garden County (25-7) | 9
(Editor's note: Since the original publication of these rankings, Leyton has moved from No. 3 to No. 2, and Central Valley has moved from No. 2 to No. 3).Â
Comments: Â Shelton claimed the D-2 title with a dominant performance over Leyton in the championship match, giving the Warriors their only loss of the season. Shelton swept its three matches at state while Leyton needed five sets to win its first-round match over Meridian and four to beat Central Valley in the semis. Defending champion Overton lost to Shelton in the semifinals. Central Valley defeated Amherst in the opening round. Wynot and Meridian made the tournament after winning their districts.
