This year, Nebraskans have an opportunity that doesn’t come along very often. We don’t elect a senator but every six years. On top of that, the two main contestants are not either Democrat or Republican. One of them is an Independent, Dan Osborn. The other is Republican Deb Fisher.
It seems the Democrats have managed to disqualify themselves. If you look at their national ticket, you can see why they are not bothering to run anyone for Senate in Nebraska. The Republicans have so dominated that they have come to take Nebraska for granted. A one-party system is not healthy for the state (look what it’s doing to California). So I would say that Nebraska is blessed to have an Independent vying for office at such a time as this.
I have met and shaken hands with both Deb and Dan, but my personal knowledge of both pretty much ends there. Dan is younger and more ready to shake things up if that’s what you think needs doing. He carries a copy of the Constitution in his hip pocket. Deb has been a senator for going on 12 years, and she has a really nice retirement built up, so it might be a favor to her to release her to that while she can still enjoy it. I don’t wish ill on either one of them. My only thought is, which one is going to be better for Nebraska?
