Nebraska Secretary of State
The secretary of state serves a four-year term and will be paid $85,000 a year.
The secretary of state serves as the state's chief election officer, working with election officials in the state's 93 counties to oversee law, elections, tabulation equipment and the state voter registration system.
The office also has responsibilities over elections, business registrations, occupational licensing, state rules and regulations, records management, international relations and youth civics programs.
The secretary of state is the keeper of the Great Seal of the State of Nebraska, and the office is the repository for official state documents.
By law, the secretary of state serves on a number of state boards, including the Nebraska Board of Pardons, State Board of Canvassers and the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission.
The current secretary of state, Republican Bob Evnen of Lincoln, was elected in 2018. He faces two Republican challengers in the primary: Robert Borer of Lincoln and Rex Schroder of Palmyra.

What experiences qualify you for this office?
My experience is with critical thinking, critical question-asking, critical decision-making and brutal honesty/transparency. These skills, along with public debate, are the basis for all public service, which should be absolutely transparent. Ours is a government of, by and for the People ... all of which are created equal. Service in public office should be kept short, in most cases, so as to not lose touch with the common man. We need election integrity to kick arrogant people out.
Why do you want to be secretary of state?
To bring transparency and integrity to our election processes and results, election integrity being integral to the security of our God-endowed “unalienable” rights and essential to consent of the governed and government of, by and for the people. To bring accountability to all levels of state and local government through use of the bully pulpit. To defend liberty and uphold the Constitution, the supreme law of the land, and to expose corruption and tyranny at every turn.
Do you believe Nebraska’s election laws need to be changed in any way? And, if so, how and why?
We have voter registration roll issues, voter verification issues, ballot chain of custody issues, tabulation issues, certification issues, etc. We have these issues because we lack transparency in each case. An elective franchise without transparency and integrity is not an elective franchise. It is a sham. A pretense. We don’t need laws to do the right thing. We only need laws to punish those who refuse to do the right thing. Our Constitution calls for an elective franchise with integrity.
Do you believe there has been any evidence of illegal voter participation or inaccurate vote-counting in Nebraska? And, if so, please identify where, when and how that took place?
Can’t do it in 80 words. Evnen cannot provide a list of who voted. The biggest evidence is refusal by the powers-that-be to be transparent and provide any evidence of integrity. The next biggest is the orchestrated propaganda campaign that was launched by our federal government and their corporate allies immediately after the 2020 election. Any time people start repeating assertions they can't possibly know to be true, not only are they lying, they are involved in a propaganda campaign.
Do you support continued access to vote-by-mail for Nebraska voters and continued access to election drop boxes? Why or why not?
No. Huge chain-of-custody issues that allow for ballot harvesting/stuffing. Our liberties were won through great sacrifice. They are preserved through great sacrifice. It is not asking too much of people (with a few exceptions) to make their way to the polls on election day to vote in person and thereby eliminate potential issues. People make it to crowded stores and doctors' offices. The integrity of our vote is sacred, too sacred to sacrifice for a little convenience.

What experiences qualify you for this office?
I have served as Nebraska's Secretary of State for going on four years. There are many responsibilities to this office beyond elections. I have experience in leading and managing all of these functions. Prior to being elected Secretary of State, I practiced law for many years— another experience which serves me well in my work as Secretary of State.
Why do you want to be secretary of state?
I am running for reelection to continue my work as Secretary of State. I will continue to secure our elections by supporting voter ID, winner-take-all, no private money for county election operations and further securing ballot drop boxes. The Secretary of State has the statutory responsibility to promote international trade. I will continue my work leading trade missions with agricultural and business representatives, and educators. On the Pardons Board, I will continue to make public safety and accountability my priorities.
Do you believe Nebraska’s election laws need to be changed in any way? And, if so, how and why?
I support voter ID, the prohibition of private money (so-called "Zuckerbucks") to fund election operations, bringing back winner-take-all in our electoral college votes, and further securing ballot drop boxes.
Do you believe there has been any evidence of illegal voter participation or inaccurate vote-counting in Nebraska? And, if so, please identify where, when and how that took place?
I have investigated every concern that was brought to the Secretary of State's office and many that were not. I have found no evidence of illegal voter participation or inaccurate vote counting in Nebraska. I do not support a hand count of ballots because I see no justification for it, and because hand counts are slow, prone to inaccuracy and vulnerable to abuse.
Do you support continued access to vote-by-mail for Nebraska voters and continued access to election drop boxes? Why or why not?
Serious consideration should be given to shortening the early ballot period. Election drop boxes were intended to assist voters in the time of COVID. We are past the pandemic. Drop boxes can be a vehicle for ballot collection abuse, which ought to be limited. For that reason, I had legislation drafted to further secure ballot drop boxes.

What experiences qualify you for this office?
I am a grassroots Nebraskan, fourth generation, who is tired of corrupt career politicians lying to us.
Why do you want to be secretary of state?
I want to secure our elections and promote local in Nebraska.
Do you believe Nebraska’s election laws need to be changed in any way? And, if so, how and why?
Yes, we have too many problems in our voter registration, the act of voting and how we count the votes.
Do you believe there has been any evidence of illegal voter participation or inaccurate vote-counting in Nebraska? And, if so, please identify where, when and how that took place?
Yes, I am compiling that evidence right now for future legal action so I can't comment.
Do you support continued access to vote-by-mail for Nebraska voters and continued access to election drop boxes? Why or why not?
No. I would like to virtually eliminate early voting, and totally eliminate drop-off boxes.
