LPS students 'vote'
Thousands of LPS students in grades four through 12 took part in the district’s biennial mock election Wednesday, less than a week ahead of the nation’s highly contested general election on Nov. 5.
Students across the district were able to cast their opinions on several real-life ballot questions, including the presidential race, both U.S. Senate races, the District 1 House of Representatives race and the ballot measure to provide employees in the state with paid sick leave.
This year, a record 23,103 ballots were cast during the election. Vice President Kamala Harris won the presidential vote, beating Donald Trump by just under 1,200 votes. Students also voted in favor of paid sick leave, Rep. Mike Flood, Dan Osborn and Preston Love Jr.

Lincoln's first all-inclusive playground
The gold shovels flipping up sand in northeast Lincoln’s Mahoney Park on Tuesday were a long time coming — and a testament to the power of moms advocating for their children.
Those community advocates, city officials and supporters who gathered in the old playground Tuesday afternoon celebrated what it will become: Lincoln’s first fully inclusive playground that will be five times the size of the existing space.
The inclusive playground at Mahoney will be done in the spring or summer of 2025. The nearly 34,000 square-foot fenced area will include a pathway loop to access different play zones, open green space and sensory gardens.
Kabourek to follow Carter
And, a former University of Nebraska interim president and chief financial officer was named a senior administrator at Ohio State University earlier this week.
Chris Kabourek, the senior vice president for business and finance at NU since 2018, was named senior vice president for administration and planning at Ohio State.
Former NU President Ted Carter, who started as Ohio State's top leader earlier this year, announced the hiring on Oct. 28.
