Hank Bounds, former president of the University of Nebraska system, will play a lead role as fundraiser for the $155 million football facilities project. In addition to his fund-raising duties, he's helping as a consultant in the oversight of design and construction. He has a three-year contract with the university in his new role.
"I'll tell the designers, 'Everything you make, make it bigger,'" athletic director Bill Moos said. "I'm talking about doorways, hallways, the seats in the team meeting room. I want the front two rows half-again as big as normal for that 340-pound guy's backside to fit in there."
The project, which carried an initial price tag of $155 million, was delayed by almost exactly a calendar year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
