One of the Nebraska football team’s offseason roster additions will not make it to Lincoln after all.
Defensive back Marquis Groves-Killebrew withdrew from the transfer portal on Saturday and will return to his former school, Arizona. Nebraska had landed a commitment from Groves-Killebrew less than two weeks ago, on Jan. 9, after he’d decided to move on after one year at Arizona.
Nebraska would’ve been Groves-Killebrew’s fourth school in four seasons, having begun his career at Texas A&M and Louisville. Instead, he’ll remain at the school where he was a 10-game contributor at cornerback in 2024.
Nebraska has added several transfers, including Justyn Rhett (Georgia), Andrew Marshall (Idaho) and Jamir Conn (Southern Illinois) to its defensive back room. But with the return of DeShon Singleton and the 105-player roster limit looming, Groves-Killebrew’s departure may also clear up how Nebraska’s secondary will look in the fall.
