The Nebraska Music Teachers Association (NMTA) will host the State Music Conference Oct. 17-18 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Westbrook Music Building, Room 114, at 11th and R streets.
The UNL Glenn Korff School of Music is co-sponsoring the event. The conference is open to all with an early bird registration postmark deadline of Sept. 14 and a final registration deadline of Sept. 21.

Conference clinician Dr. Christopher Fisher, professor of piano at Ohio University School of Music, will present: 1) The Secret Ingredient/Powerful Role of Parents; 2) Motivation, Mindset and Grit; 3) Making the Most of Every Minute: Practice Tips; and 4) The Art of Group Teaching.

Other presentations will include topics covering genre, composition and exploring underrepresented composers. The premier performance of an original composition for piano and toy piano will be performed by commissioned composer Dr. Stacey Barelos.
There will also be an Awards Luncheon and a tour of Sheldon Museum. Two sessions open to the public without registration are “The Tradition in Traditional Folk Music†presented by Humanities Nebraska-sponsored speaker David Seay at 4 p.m. Thursday, and a piano recital by conference artist Dr. Mark Clinton, professor of piano and head of the keyboard area at UNL, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 119.
