CAMBRIDGE — The superintendent of a southern Nebraska school district that considered firing a coach over a hazing incident is resigning.
Cambridge Public School Superintendent Rob Gregory confirmed his resignation but wouldn't say why or comment further.
Last week Gregory withdrew his recommendation to the school board that wrestling coach Les Pinter be dismissed. A community outcry of support for Painter arose after news of his pending dismissal surfaced.
In February two Cambridge High School students were charged as juveniles with felony child abuse in connection with an incident at a summer wrestling camp in Hastings. Gregory said the two already had been punished by school officials but declined to comment further.
Gregory and other district officials didn't immediately return messages Friday from The Associated Press.
