The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat advisory warning for Sunday with expected heat indexes of up to 110 over the weekend.
The heat warning runs from 1-8 p.m. Sunday. A heat advisory was also issued for Monday from 1-8 p.m.
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department urged staying cool and hydrated, as well as monitoring weather conditions and heat risk.
The Health Department recommended avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, staying hydrated, and wearing loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
The department said it's also key to pay close attention to small children and pets and to check on relatives, neighbors and friends who may be at risk.
Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach announced on Saturday that it would open and serve as a cooling center from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday due to the advisory.
