Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen is reminding early voters their ballots must be received in his office no later than 8 p.m. on Tuesday, primary Election Day.
Through mid-day on Wednesday, about 28,000 of the 38,500 early vote ballots sent out had been returned.
Wiltgen recommends voters not wait until the last minute and that ballots be put in the mail no later than Thursday to allow plenty of time for the U.S. Postal Service to process the mail.
Beginning Friday, the best method to return ballots would be to drop them off at one of the Election Commissioner’s drop box locations, which are available 24 hours a day:
* Election Commissioner’s Office, 601 N. 46th St.
* Anderson Branch Library, 3635 Touzalin Ave.
* Eiseley Branch Library, 1530 Superior St.
* Gere Branch Library, 2400 S. 56th St.
* Walt Branch Library, 6701 S. 14th St.
Voters may check the status of their early vote ballot on the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Voter View website at: .
Early vote ballots cannot be returned to a voter’s polling location on Election Day.
Any voter who has requested an early vote ballot and attempts to vote at their polling place on Election Day will be required to use a provisional ballot which will require additional time and paperwork. Provisional ballots will not be counted until the Election Office verifies that the voter did not return their early vote ballot which can take several days following the election.
The Lancaster County Election Commissioner’s Office will be open additional hours for early voting on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
