Lincoln Public Schools canceled school Wednesday due to extreme cold weather and dangerous wind chills.
The low temperatures Wednesday morning at 5 a.m. was 8 degrees below zero, while the wind chill factor at 4 a.m. was minus-28 at the Lincoln Airport.
The U.S. Postal Service suspended mail delivery on Wednesday as well.Â
The National Weather Service warns that a wind chill of minus 20 degrees can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.
The Cedars Youth Opportunity Center at 318 S. 13th St. is open as a warming center until 2 p.m. Thursday.
