Several Burger King locations in Lincoln have closed recently and the others have a new owner.
Meridian Restaurants Unlimited, the bankrupt owner of the Lincoln Burger Kings and a few others in Nebraska, received court approval in late September to close Lincoln locations at 48th and Holdrege streets, 48th and Van Dorn streets and 5940 Havelock Ave., as well as the location in Hastings.
The remaining Lincoln locations — at 84th and O streets, 17th and South streets, 40th Street and Old Cheney Road and 11th Street and Cornhusker Highway — along with the location in Beatrice, have been sold to a Kansas-based company, which also bought 11 of Meridian's locations in Kansas as part of a bankruptcy auction.
The closings come after Meridian closed locations at 25th and O streets and 27th and Superior streets in April, along with its location in York, as part of its bankruptcy.

The Utah-based company, which bought the Nebraska locations from Horizon Holdings in 2018, originally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March, saying at the time that it planned to reorganize and didn't plan to close any locations or cut any jobs, but those plans quickly changed after a performance evaluation that determined it was, "appropriate to cease operations and close certain of the restaurants."
After that evaluation, Meridian had 91 locations, 70 of which were sold at the bankruptcy auction last month. The remaining locations have all closed.
Burger King's parent company, Restaurant Brands International, said earlier this year that it planned to close 300-400 locations as part of a $400 million turnaround plan.
