Scammers bilked a rural Raymond couple out of more than $20,000 by telling them they won the lottery, the Lancaster County chief deputy sheriff said.
An 87-year-old woman and her 85-year-old significant other sent $22,115 in 19 payments between early November and Friday, Chief Deputy Sheriff Jeff Bliemeister said.
They sent 14 money orders from several Lincoln businesses and five from Harlingen, Texas, Bliemeister said.
When they realized they were probably being ripped off, they called the sheriff's office, he said.
