A judge gave a 23-year-old Illinois man 10 to 15 years Friday for his part in a botched home-invasion robbery that left a Lincoln man dead last year.
Derick Lewis of Alton pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob Maurice Williams.
"I would like to say I'm sorry to the family for my part in the crime," he said in court.
Defense attorney Peter Blakeslee said Lewis has shown he's taken responsibility for his actions.
And Deputy Lancaster County Attorney Bruce Prenda said Lewis is the only one of three charged in connection to the attempt to rob Williams to plead guilty to the charge he was facing.
In exchange, prosecutors dismissed a first-degree murder charge against Lewis in Williams' Aug. 30, 2014, death.
At Lewis' plea hearing in July, Prenda said police believe he and Joshua Carr, 20, burst into Williams’ home at LionsGate Apartments early that day to rob him, Carr and Lewis each armed with a rifle. He said Carr shot Williams in the chest during a struggle after Williams reached for his gun.

Lancaster County District Judge Steven Burns made Lewis' sentence consecutive to an 18-month to three-year term he got in January for another home-invasion robbery in Lincoln on Oct. 30, 2013.
Lewis was out of jail on bond when he took part in the Williams' robbery attempt.
On Wednesday, Burns refused to let Lewis' co-defendant, Carr, withdraw no-contest pleas and sentenced him to 33 to 50 years in prison for manslaughter, attempted robbery and use of a firearm to commit a felony for what happened Aug. 30, 2014, and for a separate robbery Sept. 11, 2014.
Prenda has said a third man, Joshua Holmes, planned the robbery. He pleaded no contest to being an accessory to robbery and got five years, the most he could on the charge.
