A 57-year-old Lincoln man riding his bike was killed when he was hit by a drunk driver near 54th and Saltillo Road Monday evening.
Douglas Dalke was riding his road bicycle west on Saltillo Road and attempting to turn south onto 54th Street when he was struck from behind by a westbound Chevy Prism, said Lancaster County Sgt. Mike Peschong. Dalke was pronounced dead at the scene.
Everett Hoesing, 26, of Olathe, Kansas, was driving the Prism. He was lodged in Lancaster County Jail for felony motor vehicle homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Saltillo Road was closed from 56th to 40th streets and 54th Street was closed from Bennet Road to Saltillo Road from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. while the sheriff's office conducted its investigation.
The crash was Nebraska's 11th fatal traffic incident in five days.
