On Friday morning, the State Fair hosted their second annual unique foods contest, where food vendors at the fair could enter their one-of-a-kind dishes.
Matt Rhule said Yoshitomo is one of his favorite restaurants in Nebraska and praised the state’s food scene this week on ESPN’s .
The Nebraska football coach celebrated his birthday at Yoshitomo recently and said on the podcast that his experience there was “phenomenal.â€
The sushi restaurant in Benson was recently named a , as Rhule pointed out on the podcast. Yoshitomo’s Chef David Utterback was also a finalist for best chef in the Midwest region last year.
Jay Hendricksen, Yoshitomo’s operations manager, said the restaurant was honored to have Rhule visit and that he was excited to hear his praise on the podcast.
“We're really happy that he enjoyed his dining experience and excited also that he was enthusiastic about what Nebraska has to offer as far as culinary options,†he said.
Rhule also gave a shoutout to Casa Bovina, which he said is his favorite all-around restaurant in Lincoln. Rhule had high praise for the restaurant’s Piedmontese beef and expansive wine list.
Casa Bovina’s general manager Jordan Reed said in a statement the restaurant is grateful for Rhule and his wife Julie’s patronage.
“We're truly honored by his recognition, especially coming from such a respected figure as Coach Rhule,†Reed said.
The podcast hosts also asked Rhule about Runza and Nebraskans’ love for cinnamon rolls with their chili, which Rhule described as a winning combination.
