In District 23, two Republicans emerged from a crowded primary of six seeking to replace Sen. Bruce Bostelman of Brainard, who is term-limited.
Dennis Fujan of Prague and Jared Storm of David City are vying to represent the district, which includes Saunders County and a portion of Butler and Colfax counties.
Storm did not respond to the Journal Star's request to participate in the Voter's Guide.

Why are you running for office?
Faith, family and patriotism are my top issues. Property tax issues and property owners paying the lion's share of local services' support without equal representation. Lack of rural representation for agriculture, our No. 1 industry. Education.
What experiences qualify you for this office?
I am a lifelong resident of this district and served in the U.S. Navy, I’ve been a volunteer firefighter for 25 years, a charter member of the local Jaycees, I’m on the board of directors of the county Farm Bureau, Nebraska and American Soybean Association and Nebraska Rural Radio Association, Corn Growers and Nebraska Cattlemen. I have a deep-rooted interest in representing Nebraska’s conservative values.
What is your top priority?
As I said earlier, faith, family and patriotism are what guides me to do what I am doing. Abortion needs to be stopped, and our children need protection; especially, girls need to be safe from biological boys in girls sports, locker rooms and bathrooms.
What do you think the single most important challenge facing our state is, and how do you propose to address it?
Spending and funding. We need to get serious about what services we want and need, and our methods of funding these services. We also need to bring fairness into the picture, so people can keep more of their hard-earned income.
What role should the Legislature play in regulating access to abortion, contraception and fertility treatments?
Abortion should be illegal.
Do you support or oppose efforts to replace Nebraska’s unique system for counting electoral college votes with the winner-take-all model? Why?
Winner-take-all should be reinstated.
