Slipknot will bring its Knotfest Roadshow to Pinnacle Bank Arena on Aug. 8.
The masked, Iowa heavy metal outfit, known for its chaotic shows, elaborate stage setups and intensely loyal fans, will be accompanied by Volbeat, Gojira and Behemoth for a day that will feature a “carnival†on the arena grounds.
“They want to do an outdoor stage and some daytime stuff,†said arena manager Tom Lorenz. “They haven’t given us a lot of detail yet. We’ve done a pre-party outside before, with a DJ. But to have a live band is something unique and interesting. I think it will make it feel more like a festival.â€
The Lincoln stop is one of 29 shows on the tour that begins July 26 in Mountain View, California.
Most of the shows on the tour are set for amphitheaters, which is where most summer concerts play. But a few, like Lincoln’s, are inside.
The August show will be Slipknot’s first Lincoln performance in 20 years. Slipknot’s DJ Starscream opened a 2012 Marilyn Manson/Rob Zombie concert at Pershing Center.
“It’s nice we can still continue to find new bands that haven’t played at Pinnacle Bank Arena that have a regional draw that will make the summer special,†Lorenz said.
Slipknot came from Des Monies to play Knickerbockers, the now-demolished 9th and O street club, twice in 1999, while they were recording and had just finished their self-titled debut album.
"The first time, there was nobody there, the second time there may have been 20 people,†said Jared Alberico, who worked as the sound engineer on those shows. Both of the times their performances were astounding. They were full formed when I saw them. I wasn’t really into their music, but they were highly entertaining. They had it down."
Their self-titled debut album was an immediate smash, selling more than 2 million copies and creating what has been a heavy metal monster for the last two decades. To date, Slipknot has been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards, winning in 2006 for “Before I Forget,†has 13 platinum and 44 gold record certifications around the world and sold more than 10 million albums.
Slipknot will release its new album Aug. 9, the day after the Lincoln show. Each pair of tickets purchased online for Slipknot’s 2019 tour will come with a digital copy of the album.
Tickets for the Slipknot concert go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Tickets range from $39.50 to $99.50 and will be available at the arena ticket office, and by phone at 800-745-3000.
The Slipknot concert is the ninth announced show at the arena through August. The other shows are: Shinedown, March 15; Michael Buble, March 23; Styx and Larry the Cable Guy, March 27; Kenny Chesney, May 18; New Kids on the Block, June 8; Carrie Underwood, June 23; Cardi B., July 26; and Why Don’t We, Aug. 14.
The arena has hosted three shows this year -- Disturbed in January and Excision and James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt in February.
