Readers and I agree: Phat Jack’s BBQ in Lincoln serves the best BBQ in the area, earning it the top spot in Jeff’s Top Five: Second Edition.
Following are my favorite BBQ joints, followed by reader favorites based on 550 responses to our online survey.

1. Phat Jack's BBQ
1. Phat Jack’s BBQ, 101 S.W. 14th -- The burnt ends are my favorite menu item, but you can’t go wrong with the combination plate, which allows you to mix and match meats.
The locally owned restaurant is one of those feel-good success stories. Matt and Jackie Burt are two Lincolnites who, after getting married and moving to Olathe, Kansas, took up competitive BBQ in 2004. They returned to Lincoln, and, with the help of their family, opened Phat Jack’s at 40th and Cornhusker Highway.
Their success was immediate. It’s here you can find some of the tastiest ribs, pulled pork and brisket.
2. Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q

3. Parker's Smokehouse
3. Parker’s Smokehouse, 8341 O St. -- Servers give tutorials about the many sauces. A nice touch to go along with fine, smoked meat choices.

4. Famous Dave’s, 2750 Pine Lake Road -- The chain gets kudos for consistency in food, service and atmosphere.
