Lincoln woman accused of taking more than $100K from accounts she was responsible for
A Lincoln woman was charged Tuesday after she was accused of illegally taking more than $100,000 from accounts she was the conservator of, according to court documents.
Amanda Schoonveld, 41, was charged with unlawful taking of more than $5,000.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the Lincoln Police Department was provided information that Schoonveld may have taken money from accounts she was a conservator of and used it to gamble.Ìý
In June 2023, Schoonveld was named the conservator by the Lancaster County Probate Court over three accounts scheduled to receive benefits from a deceased family member.
Eventually, a total of $127,531.97 was deposited across the three accounts, which gained interest over time, police say.Ìý
The court required Schoonveld to obtain a court order if she wanted to make any withdrawals from the accounts, a requirement she verbally accepted in court, according to the affidavit.
In August, the Lancaster County Probate Court requested information on the three accounts. Schoonveld did not provide any information to the court.
Financial records showed the three accounts had a total of $2.82.
Police acquired and reviewed Schoonveld's financial records. Between December 2023 and April, the records showed Schoolveld transferring $132,843 from the accounts she was conservator of to her personal accounts, according to the affidavit.
All the transactions were unauthorized since no court order was given to allow the movement of funds.
Through Schoonveld's records, officers discovered 144 transactions at casinos totaling $88,339.70 from December 2023 through August. Another 18 cash withdrawals were also found, totaling $38,215.
Judge Timothy Phillips provided Schoonveld with a personal recognizance bond, which means she does not need to post any money to the court to be released.
