Lincoln's only Gap store will be closing next month on the eve of its 20th anniversary.
The company confirmed in an email that the last day for the Gap and Gap Kids stores that share space at SouthPointe Pavilions will be Jan. 28.
"The decision to close a store is always a difficult one, and we hope our customers will continue to shop with us at nearby stores or online," the company said in the email.
The only other Gap stores in Nebraska are at the Nebraska Crossing Outlets in Gretna and in Omaha at the Westroads and Village Pointe malls.
Gap Inc. last month announced plans to potentially close hundreds of stores that are either underperforming or don't fit with the company's future vision.
Gap was one of the first tenants in the mall at 27th and Pine Lake Road, opening in January 1999.

The company does not appear to have plans to close either its Old Navy or Banana Republic stores, which both have single Lincoln locations at SouthPointe.
Those brands had positive sales growth in the third quarter compared with a year ago, while sales at Gap stores fell 7 percent.
Gap will join other local and national retailers that have closed Lincoln stores this year, including Toys 'R' Us, Younkers, Mattress Firm, Austad's and Post & Nickel.
